NSW: Deaf swim instructor first woman over City2Surf line
SYDNEY, Aug 9 AAP - Blue Mountain's swim instructor Melinda Vernon has taken out the
women's division in the City2Surf in a time of 47:46 minutes.
The 23-year beat out Canberra student Emily Brichacek, second, and race favourite Clare
Geraghty, third.
Vernon, who is deaf, said she was thrilled with taking out the 14km race and smashing
her personal best of 49 minutes.
So far there has been no report of major casualties, with medical staff saying there
had been the usual instances of dehydration and falls but nothing more serious.
Around 75,000 professional and amateur competitors were taking part in the Sydney to
Bondi fun run and many were continuing to make their way across the finish line.
