SA: No bail for "hate speech" historian = 2

Former federal MP Graeme Campbell called on Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer to
intervene to secure Dr Toben's immediate release, saying his imprisonment was an outrage
against an Australian citizen.

Mr Campbell, a former Labor MP who now heads the Australia First party, said criminal
penalties for holocaust denial had been resisted in Australia and it was time they were
scrapped in Germany.

"I am pleased that Dr Toben and others who dare to challenge any detail of the holocaust in
Australia are still free to do so," he said in a statement.

"It is time the German people informed their government that they will no longer accept the
ridicule which is theirs for allowing such gross infringements of freedom of expression."
